Smokin’ Iguana is a beer with a cause

Proactive Safety Education for Kids

Lil' Iguana's Children's Safety Foundation

Since 1994, LICSF has taught children ages 2-10 crucial safety & well-being lessons in music based, interactive programs that children remember for the rest of their lives.

The Lil’ Iguana’s Children’s Safety Foundation is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that teaches children important safety lessons through live musical programs. Lil’ Iguana’s programs are presented in elementary schools, child care facilities, and community events throughout the United States and feature life saving lessons like Buckle-Up, Street Smarts, Get Permission, Who’s a Stranger, and Run, Run, Run, Yell & Tell!

Music Based Learning

Music is the most effective way to teach. Learning through music helps establish a positive learning environment where children are engaged and able to retain the teachings.1 Lil’ Iguana uses catchy songs with fun lyrics to teach all of the life-saving lessons presented in its programming. Children are engaged when listening to the music. They sing a long to the toe-tapping songs, clap their hands, and stomp their feet along to the melody. Music learning helps breakdown complex concepts and make them enjoyable to learn and remember.

Interactive Role Playing

Role playing used when teaching young children is proven effective in reaching learning outcomes. Role playing with children is more effective than one-way instruction. When children are able to test out the skills they have learned, and put them in practice, this creates a deeper cognitive link to the material, making it easier for students to learn

Repetition

Lil’ Iguana’s programs feature repetition. The lessons are presented through music, interactive role playing, as well as question & answer checkpoints. The life-saving lessons are taught with multiple examples and phrasing throughout the programs to reinforce the teachings.

Proactive vs. Reactive

All of Lil’ Iguana’s programming is proactive and prevention based. A strong foundation starts with proactive, preventative measures. Reactive programs are too late to keep a child safe and save a child’s life. Lil’ Iguana hopes every child can live a safe and happy life, and this starts in their childhood.
